Although Charlie Parker is generally regarded as the incarnation of Bebop, his music was often deeply imbued with the Blues. Perhaps nowhere was this more evident than on the album The Magnificent Charlie Parker. In 1955, it brought together several singles recorded in two sessions, that the brilliant alto saxophonist had made in 1951 with completely different but equally top-class quintet line-ups. The first recording on January 17, 1951 saw a reunion with Miles Davis and Max Roach, and the quintet was completed by pianist Walter Bishop Jr. and bassist Teddy Kotick. The second session took place on August 8 of the same year, this time Parker’s partners were the great Red Rodney on trumpet, the young pianist John Lewis, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Kenny Clarke. The lbum is completed by three further single tracksTracklisting:A1. Au PrivaveA2. She RoteA3. K.C. BluesA4. Star EyesA5. In The Still Of The NightA6. Old FolksB1. Blues For AliceB2. Si SiB3. Swedish SchnappsB4. Back Home BluesB5. Lover ManB6. Why Do I Love You?
