Jeremiah Fraites, co-founder of The Lumineers, charts new territory with his second release, Piano Piano 2. Its not a companion piece to Piano Piano as much as an outright evolution. If Fraites debut album was sparse and minimalist, then Piano Piano 2 is expansive and adventurous, pairing his piano with layers of percussion, acoustic guitar, strings, spoken-word snippets, and bubbling synths. Theres even a symphonic cover of Radioheads No Surprises, featuring strings from the Macedonian FAMES Studio Orchestra and vocals from Gregory Alan Isakov.
