Here’s a fascinating piece of Byrds history that often gets overlooked by casual collectors. McGuinn, Clark & Hillman represents the closest thing to a proper Byrds reunion we got during the late ’70s, bringing together Roger McGuinn’s signature 12-string Rickenbacker sound with Gene Clark’s songwriting genius and Chris Hillman’s country-rock sensibilities. This Capitol release captures three-fifths of the classic Byrds lineup at a time when each had already established successful solo careers, making it a unique snapshot of what might have been.
