Here’s a prime example of Eisenwald Tonschmiede’s exceptional ear for underground metal during their formative years. Loits’ “Must Album” represents a fascinating chapter in Estonian black metal history, as the band was already well-established in their homeland’s extreme metal scene by 2009. What makes this release particularly compelling is how it captures Loits at a crossroads between their earlier raw black metal approach and a more expansive sound that incorporates traditional folk elements and cleaner production values. The album title, simply meaning “Black Album” in Estonian, reflects the band’s straightforward approach to their craft while simultaneously nodding to the darkness that permeates their music.
