Here’s a pressing that doesn’t surface nearly as often as it should the original 1975 Warner Bros. release of Kate and Anna McGarrigle’s stunning debut. These Montreal sisters arrived on the scene with an album that perfectly captured the mid-70s intersection of folk tradition and contemporary songcraft, creating something that felt both timeless and utterly fresh. What makes this record particularly compelling is how it showcases their bilingual approach, weaving together French-Canadian folk elements with American roots music in a way that influenced everyone from Linda Ronstadt to Emmylou Harris. The harmonies alone are worth the price of admission, but it’s the songwriting Anna’s “Heart Like a Wheel” became a signature tune for Ronstadt that really sets this apart from the folk revival pack.
