Verve, 1962
This 1962 collaboration by co-leaders tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist Charlie Byrd, was the first bossa nova album recorded by American jazz musicians and – together with Getzs follow-up collaboration with Joo Gilberto, kick started the bossa nova craze. It contains some bona-fide classics of the genre including the evergreen Samba de Uma Nota S (One Note Samba) and Antonio Carlos Jobims Desafinado, and the whole album glows with a warm beauty and graceful sophistication.
