Here’s a Canadian pressing of James Last’s “Super Non Stop Dancing” from 1972 that represents the German bandleader at his most groove-heavy. While Last is often pigeonholed as easy listening, this particular album finds him diving deep into funk territory, with his orchestra tackling extended medleys that blend seamlessly from one track to the next. The “Non Stop Dancing” series was Last’s most successful commercial venture, but this entry stands apart for its heavier rhythmic approach and surprisingly authentic soul arrangements that avoid the sterile orchestration of his later work.
