The latest album encapsulates the music commissioned for Richardsiegal’s ectopia, as performed in 2021 by Tanztheater Pina Bausch with Anish Kapoor’s “Shooting into the Corner” (2008-09). Evolving from the immersive dub and electronica of its predecessor, HYBR:ID II guides the listener through a sonic odyssey of intricately manipulated digital production. Across ten compositions, Carsten Nicolai skillfully weaves precise rhythmic patterns reminiscent of celestial bodies in cosmic unison, drawing inspiration from Minkowski’s four-dimensional spacetime model. The sonic landscape unfolds with a blend of sombre tones, expansive dub textures, and cascading metallic percussions, creating a delicate tapestry of sound design and ethereal atmospheres. Melancholic chords meander through a digital haze, steering the music into unforeseen emotional territories, while accompanying graphic notations provide visual insight into the album’s sonic and acoustic codes.
